APRONS - LEAD AND LEAD FREE
APRONS DON'T HAVE TO BE COMPLICATED!
Richard's now features Bar-Ray Aprons. Bar-Ray has
been in business over 80 years making their own materials
and fabrics. When considering purchasing aprons you
should consider the protection level needed, the style, the
weight and finally the cost.
Most hospitals purchase aprons that are either 0.5mm or
0.35mm of lead or lead equivalent. In most states 0.25mm
is the minimum level of protection. 0.5mm is designed to
block out 100% of scatter radiation at 90kvp 0.35mm is
designed to block out 97%. Most hospitals have set their
own standards as to what their minimum protection level is.
Bar-Ray offers many different styles, of which we have listed
just a few. The style of the apron and the shape of your
body help to determine how comfortable the apron is for you.
The weighting of the apron is also very important. If you are
in long procedures weight can be an extremely important
part of the decision. The difference in weight between lead and the newer no lead aprons may be as much as 5 lbs.
Protective Materials Available in either 0.5mm or .35mm levels of protection.
Lead is the cheapest; however it is harmful to the environment and can NOT be disposed of in a normal fashion.
